Dr. Robert Ellis has been known for
many years for his beautiful nature photography, and for the

Bob Ellis grew up in Houlton, spending
his summers at East Grand Lake. After the University of
Maine, he graduated from Ohio State University College of
Optometry. While at OSU he worked as a surveyor and field
assistant doing glaciology in Alaska as well as the
Antarctic. After two years as an optometrist at Fort Polk
Army Hospital he returned to Houlton where he established a
practice in 1973.
He attributes his interest in photography to his parents who
were avid nature enthusiasts as well as his travel
experiences. His nature photography has been published
several times in Nature Photographer Magazine, The
Appalachian Trail Calendar and travel guide companion as
well as various calendars and promotional brochures. His
work is displayed at his 40 Court Street office and at
Visions Art Gallery in downtown Houlton.
